The university city of Suzhou

If there is a “Venice of China”, it is Suzhou. The Chinese city is located in the southeast of the province of Jiangsu and is about 110 kilometers from Shanghai. Around 10 million people live in the Chinese metropolis, whose history goes back over 2500 years.

Today the city is one of the most economically advanced regions in China. Despite this, time seems to have stood still in Suzhou. The romantic water town is famous for its ancient waterways and canals, millennia-old temples, pagodas and world-class museums. Suzhou has made an international name for itself as a synonym for high culture and elegance. The city has an exceptionally large number of gardens, which is why it is also known as the “City of Gardens”. More than 60 gardens are spread across the city, nine of which have UNESCO World Heritage status.

But in Suzhou you can not only walk in the footsteps of history, but also take advantage of a wide range of entertainment. There is a whole range of restaurants and bars in the city and a wide variety of shopping opportunities. International students can choose to stock up on local culinary specialties, handmade folding fans or aromatic Bi Lo Chun green tea.
