The university city of Rome
Rome is a beautiful city with around 2.5 million inhabitants in the province of Rome and at the same time the capital of Italy on the banks of the river Tiber.
The metropolis is also known as the “Eternal City”, which dates back to ancient times when Rome was the capital of the Roman Empire. Within the city limits, the independent state of Vatican City forms an enclave; the Pope, who is also Bishop of Rome and head of the Roman Catholic Church, resides there. Vatican City, St. Peter’s Basilica and the old town of Rome were even declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO in 1980.
The weather is very pleasant and characterized by the Mediterranean location: the annual average temperature is 15.5 °C. When it comes to culture, there is an endless amount to see in Rome, such as the Vatican Museums, the Capitoline Museums and St. Peter’s Basilica. The Pantheon is the only surviving dome and the Colosseum is the largest amphitheater of antiquity; there are also many important squares such as the Piazza di Spagna with the Spanish Steps or the Piazza Navona with three famous fountains. Another world famous fountain is the Fontana di Trevi; they say that if you throw a coin in there, you will definitely come back to Rome.
As for nightlife, you should know that the Romans generally go out late. Places to see and be seen are above all the wine bars and cafés between Campo dei Fiori, Piazza Navona and Via della Pace. If you want to party in nightclubs, you will find the best places in the district of Testaccio, where you can go dancing or go to concerts very well.
