International students are offered the opportunity to study for one or two terms at Deakin University as part of the Study Abroad semester program at Deakin University’s English Language Institute. Two trimesters equal one academic year.
There is the possibility of free course selection across trimesters and departments from all university courses of the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs offered at Deakin University.
The desired courses are already specified in the application. Course selection must be approved by the relevant Deakin University department. As a rule, you will also receive confirmation of the approved courses together with the acceptance for the Study Abroad Program.

Financing options
Students have the opportunity to apply for foreign BAföG for their semester abroad at Deakin University, provided they study there for at least 2 trimesters. In addition to a subsidy for tuition fees of up to EUR 4,600, the foreign BAföG also includes financial support for travel and living expenses as well as health insurance, provided that there is an individual entitlement to funding.
Requirements
Applicants to the Deakin University semester program must have a high school diploma.
Sufficient knowledge of English is usually proven by a standardized language test such as the TOEFL or the IELTS. Applicants with an English Abitur grade of 7 points or better may also take a DAAD test instead of the TOEFL or IELTS.
The required minimum scores in the language tests for some courses may be higher than stated below.

Campus
Deakin University consists of multiple campuses spread throughout Melbourne. The largest of these is the Melbourne Burwood campus in the southern suburb of Burwood. There are wide, open spaces where people can meet and learn. The campus is very modern with an innovative architecture.
The Geelong Waterfront Campus is located on Corio Bay, about 75 kilometers south of Melbourne. It is the newest campus of the university and is housed in historic, thoroughly renovated industrial buildings.
Also in Geelong is the Waurn Pond Campus with lots of green space and excellent sports facilities. It is also home to the Geelong Technology Precinct for research and development.
Located on the Hopkins River, three hours from Melbourne, the Warrnambool campus is close to beautiful beaches and tourist attractions. Here the students form a close community, and the relationship with the teachers and employees of the university is also cordial.
