Cinnamon Properties and Recipes

If you think that the cinnamon is just a spice, it is misleading. Obtained from the inner part of the bark of the trunk of the caneleira (Cinnamomum zeylanicum), cinnamon is not only one of the spices most ancient and used in the world, as it is also beneficial for health and useful in terms of nutrition.

THE PROPERTIES OF CINNAMON

Sold in stick or powder, the cinnamon is very appreciated in the whole world. Its aroma and taste intense are the delight of its fans, and its properties make this spice to be highly beneficial.

Rich in calcium, potassium, fiber and magnesium, the cinnamon in addition to being highly nutritious, the cinnamon is also a strongantioxidant, a powerful aphrodisiac andthermogenic, that not only speeds up the metabolism, but also helps keep your appetite controlled.

3 RECIPES WITH CINNAMON

1. APPLE PIE AND CINNAMON

Great to accompany with a cup of tea or a scoop of ice cream.

– Ingredients –

  • 1 package of puff pastry
  • 2 c. tablespoon cinnamon
  • 8 apples
  • 250 ml of water
  • 75g of sugar
  • Margarine and liquid caramel q. b

– Mode of preparation –

  1. In a pan put water to boil and then put five apples peeled and cut into pieces to bake.
  2. Then add the sugar and cook for 5 to 7 minutes.
  3. In the meantime, roll out puff pastry with a rolling pin from the kitchen.
  4. Grease the tarteira with margarine and place the dough on the bottom, pricking the base with a fork.
  5. Peel the remaining apples and cut them into thin slices.
  6. When the apples are already cooked, remove from the heat and let stand for approximately 2 minutes. Grind everything with the magic wand and add the cinnamon.
  7. Pour the prepared mixture prior to the tarteira, garnish with the slices of apples in a circle, and, finally, brush the entire surface of the tart with liquid caramel.
  8. Bake in the oven, pre-heated to 180ºC for 15 minutes.

2. COOKIES OF CINNAMON

Another good option for the snack.

– Ingredients –

  • 100g of butter
  • 150g of sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 250g of flour
  • Cinnamon q. b.

– Mode of preparation –

  1. Start by lining a tray with parchment paper and grease well with a little butter.
  2. Then, mix the butter with the sugar, then add the egg and, finally, wrap the flour.
  3. Now you only need to give form to their dumplings. Mold small amounts of mass into little balls, roll them through cinnamon and arrange them at intervals on the board.
  4. Bake in the oven, pre-heated to 180ºC and cook for about 20 minutes.

 

3. BAKED APPLES IN THE OVEN WITH ANISE AND CINNAMON

A combination that never disappoint.

– Ingredients –

  • 5 apples
  • 5 star anise
  • Honey
  • Cherry liqueur
  • Cinnamon powder

– Mode of preparation –

  1. Wash the apples and remove the central core.
  2. Place them on a baking tray and into each hole of the apples place a star anise.
  3. Then, sprinkle with cinnamon, drizzle with honey and with a bit of liqueur (to taste).
  4. Bake in the oven pre-heated to 200º C, and let cook about 20 minutes (or until they are to your liking).
