Campus

The CSU Long Beach campus is partially situated on a hilltop, which offers a fantastic view of the nearby Pacific Ocean. Everywhere you will also find interesting works of art that have been donated by private individuals over the years as part of the “Campus Sculpture Collection”.

There are more than 80 buildings throughout the campus that house colleges, departments and other university departments. The campus center is the University Student Union, which is located centrally at an intersection.

The campus owes its very picturesque appearance to the planting of thousands of peach trees, donated by city residents, which bear beautiful blossoms. This environment creates harmony and also means that, despite the large number of students at the university, it is still possible to be alone and spend time alone or in a small, intimate group.

The college town of Long Beach

The city of Long Beach, which was only founded in 1880, has almost half a million inhabitants and is located about 50 kilometers south of Los Angeles directly on the Pacific Ocean. Long Beach has the second largest port in the USA and is therefore an important business location within California and beyond its borders.

The city also has a long city beach and some attractions near the pier and port. On the one hand, there is the Queen Mary Hotel and Museum in Long Beach, since this cruise ship found its last berth here after the end of its “duty”.

The city has a good range of cultural and sporting activities – for example, Long Beach hosts the so-called “Long Beach Grand Prix” every year, a well-known car race in the harbor area, as well as regular water sports events. There are also music and theater festivals, as well as numerous exhibitions and other cultural events.

The climate in Los Angeles is pleasant year round with warm summers and mild winters. Although the latter do not necessarily invite you to swim, they are still warm enough to be outside in a T-shirt or in the evenings with a light jacket or sweater. Life in the city is characterized by the pleasant climate, so that a lot happens outside.

Located between Los Angeles and San Diego, Long Beach is also a great base for exploring Southern California.
