Since it was founded in 1895 as Auckland Technical School, but only got its final name in 2000 after some renaming, it is considered the newest university in the country.

There is a wide range of courses at AUT in many different disciplines. International students are offered the opportunity to study for one or two semesters at AUT University as part of the semester program Study Abroad. Here you have the option of choosing a course from many university courses in the bachelor’sand master’s degree programs offered at the AUT. Courses in visual communication, project management, engineering planning, web development, international relations, event planning and many more are particularly popular.

The participants either have the option of studying on a regular basis or combining their courses with an internship, for which there are also credits. Under certain circumstances, you can have the academic achievements credited for your further studies after prior agreement.

The desired courses are already specified in the application. This choice of course must be approved by the respective department of the AUT. As a rule, you will also receive confirmation of the approved courses together with the acceptance for the Study Abroad program.

The tuition fees include 60 credit points per semester. As a rule, you take three to four courses per semester. The above fees apply to both undergraduate and postgraduate level courses.

There is also an additional health insurance of NZD 310.

Financing options

The following options are available to finance a semester abroad at AUT University. Students can apply for BAföG abroad and, if there is an individual entitlement, receive support for living and travel expenses, health insurance and a subsidy towards tuition fees of up to EUR 4,600.

Requirements

Applicants for the semester program at Auckland University of Technology must have a high school diploma, have already studied for one year and demonstrate a sufficiently good knowledge of English.

This is usually done using a standardized English test such as the TOEFL or the IELTS. Alternatively, the AUT University also accepts the DAAD test, but in the postgraduate area this is only accepted in some departments, for example business administration.

Campus

The AUT University consists of several locations. The largest campus, City Campus, is in the heart of Auckland. All the important university facilities are housed here, as well as the faculties of Business and Law, Culture and Society, Design and Creative Technologies and Te Ara Poutama (Maori Development).

The 12-storey Sir Paul Reeves Building is particularly proud of here. It has a modern and flexible design and is intended to underscore AUT’s position as “The University for the Changing World”. In addition to the business school, one of the most advanced communications schools in the world is also housed here. In addition, there are many places where students can study or meet in their free time.

In addition to the City Campus, there is also the North Shore Campus north of Auckland. The departments of health and education are mainly located here. The third location, Manukau Campus, is in Manukau City south of Auckland. Various courses are also offered here. Finally, the AUT Millennium Campus is also located in Auckland.

The university city of Auckland

Auckland City is the country’s largest city with around 420,000 inhabitants, is located on the North Island of New Zealand and belongs to the Auckland region. Auckland also includes numerous islands in the Hauraki Gulf, such as Waiheke Island and Great Barrier Island. The airport is 21 kilometers southwest of the city center and most of the unique destinations and attractions are also only half an hour away from the city centre. You can reach your destination quickly by car, bus, train or ferry, but you also have the option of booking a guided sightseeing tour.

The climate is temperate with warm summers with temperatures around 24°C and slightly cooler winters at 16°C; There are no temperature extremes. Auckland is also called the “City of Sails” and is considered one of the best lifestyle cities in the world because the cosmopolitan center is complemented by the easily accessible nature in the area.
